2015 - A Year of Freelance Firsts

Posted on: Dec 23, 2015
I decided to go freelance for many reasons, but the promise of 'no two days are ever the same' was very appealing. My first year of self-employment has certainly lived up to this expectation, with plenty of new experiences and challenges keeping me on my toes for the last 12 months...
The first blog written for Female Business Hub, about speaking with a business coach (another first!) The beginning of a great relationship with FBH and I've written more blogs for them since. Love these ladies.
Female Business Hub
Definitely not the first time I've ever handed in my notice, but the first time I've done it without technically having another job to go to. It was the terrifying, but very necessary, first step onto a completely new career path.
The first time it all started to feel very real
Last day at work
The first month of being a proper full-time freelancer. This month was pretty mad. I started working with four new clients and did my first ever tattoo design (for someone that wasn’t me, anyway!)

The first series of blogs written for the lovely people at Spaghetti Agency.

My first really big-ass creative project for a new client, which included multiple designs for emails, landing pages, flyers and presentations, took several months and allowed me to send my biggest invoice since becoming self-employed. A very proud moment!
Like a Boss
Started working with three new clients, all from very different industries.
A large IT service provider, a wedding photographer and a web developer.

First time working with two new clients, on two new logo projects.
People were going mad for logos at this time of year!
I love logos
First commission for a bespoke wedding anniversary gift, with a brief to turn the couple into superheroes. You can read all about it here.

Started working with a new digital agency. This was the first time designing simple icons for a set of website buttons.

For the first time, my copywriting jobs outnumbered my design jobs.
I was not expecting that!

The first year without an office Christmas party! However, I didn't miss out on the festivities as two generous clients invited me to join them for their Christmas dos. As a self-employed home-worker I was anticipating a turkey sandwich for one, so this was a lovely way to end the year.
