Happy Fool

Posted on: Apr 01, 2016

This has been a short week, with the Easter bank holiday weekend, so this will be a short blog to go with it. A year ago today was the first time in my life that I knew I wasn’t going to get a pay cheque at the end of the month. I’d spent so long planning to become self-employed that I never really stopped to consider what it would actually be like!

A year on and it still seems apt that the day falls on April Fool’s Day, because make no mistake, being freelance can sometimes feel like a fool’s errand. Who else but a fool would give up the security of a steady income for the uncertainty of being a designer-for-hire? Because yes, money has been tight for the last year and yes, sometimes I feel like I’m simultaneously spinning a Wedgwood factory’s worth of plates. But if I’m a fool, then I’m a happy fool.

There isn’t much else to say about the last year that I haven’t already discussed in my 3 month and 6 month reviews, so I’ll sign of with a sincere Thank You to everyone I’ve worked with over the last year, and all my fabulous supportive friends. The ones who insisted on paying for lunch, the ones who referred my services and sent me links for potential jobs, and everyone who’s ever liked, commented on or shared my posts on social media. It all helps and is very much appreciated!

Thank You
